About me

Welcome to my webpage!

My name is Debra Kurzman, and this is my 11th year working as an Occupational Therapist in the Marlboro Township Public Schools. This year I will be providing services at the David Abbott Early Learning Center and Dugan Elementary School.

To tell you a little bit about myself, I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Boston University, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. I taught in public and private schools in the Greater Boston Area and southeastern Connecticut for fifteen years.

While teaching in Connecticut I developed an interest in how vision impacts learning and successful participation in school. Both of my children had visual issues that impacted their ability to engage in literacy activities, behavioral responses to environmental demands, and participation in recreational and leisure activities.  I learned various strategies and techniques that helped my children become successful students, and I began to employ these approaches in my teaching, I knew that vision was only one piece of the puzzle. Through my interaction and consultation with other health care professionals I was introduced to the field of occupational therapy (OT) and learned how OTs work in various settings to help individuals improve their ability to function across many environments. This led me to redirect my career to pursue a graduate degree in occupational therapy; I received my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) from Kean University. Since then, I have been providing therapeutic services to students in public school districts in New Jersey.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and volunteering in the community.

I look forward to working and learning with all of the children, and meeting the parents as we have a productive year together.
