Biography:

This is my 21st year teaching at the David C. Abbott Early Learning Center. I hold a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Maryland. I have been a Speech Pathologist for more than 30 years and I have worked with both children and adults in a variety of settings. My husband and I have been living in Marlboro since 1993 and we have raised our two daughters here.

Children may be enrolled in speech classes if their speech and/or language negatively affects their educational performance. As a speech therapist, I work with the children who have difficulties in the areas of Articulation, Voice, Stuttering, Language and/or Hearing Impairment. A child may be referred by a parent or teacher. If you should have questions about the process for referrals or wish to discuss your child's current program

September News:

I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer vacation. It is hard to believe that we are starting another exciting year of pre-school and kindergarten. During the month of September the children are all very busy with so many exciting activities. I look forward to meeting many of you during Back to School Night. Please remember if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me or email me at [email protected].

If your child has a speech notebook, please review it often. Carryover at home helps to reinforce what we are learning at school. Please check you child's notebook for speech homework. There may not always be homework; however, it is always great to review random pages in the book to help reinforce previously learned material. Please make sure the speech notebook stays in your child's backpack.

October News:

The themes for October are Fall, Apples & Halloween.

In October, the children will enjoy learning about fall, leaves, apples and pumpkins. We will talk abut how pumpkins grow from a seed, to flowers and then to an orange pumpkins. As usual, my focus will be on the children increasing their vocabulary, their ability to follow directions of increasing length answering a variety of "wh" questions as well as increasing the intelligibility of their speech.

November News:

WHAT TIME IS IT?

IT'S THANKSGIVING TIME!

In November we will be discussing fruits, vegetables, turkeys, Native Americans and Pilgrims. Point out the different fruits and vegetables to your children when they go grocery shopping with you. We will also be talking about what we are thankful for!

My focus will continue to be on increasing the children’s vocabulary, their ability to

follow directions of increasing length, answering a variety of "wh" questions as well as increasing the intelligibility of their speech.

In addition, I love to talk with your children. If you do something special over the weekend that you would like to share with me please write it in your child's speech notebook. A fun way to do this is to have your child tell you 3 things that they remember and would like to share with me. This way I can reinforce your fun times in school.

December News

We had a great November and Thanksgiving Feast. We have many fun activities planned for December. We will be learning about winter concepts (i.e. hot and cold), winter holidays and reading some winter stories. As usual, my focus will be on increasing the children's vocabulary, increasing their ability to follow directions, answering a variety of 'wh' questions and of course increasing the intelligibility of their speech. I am also looking forward to meeting you all during conference week.

January News

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season. In January we will be learning about winter, snow, burrowing animals, polar animals and family heritage. We will continue to work on following directions, answering questions and classifying and categorizing. Children who are working on articulation, will continue practicing their sounds in words and sentences.

February News

February is a busy and fun month! In February we will continue to be working on winter themes and concepts. In addition I will be including the following themes: Polar Animals and other Artic and Antartic animals, Groundhog's Day, The 100th Day of School, Valentine's Day and President's Day(familiarizing them with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln). We will continue to work on following directions, answering questions and classifying and categorizing. We will also be working on listening and comprehending short stories. Children who are working on articulation, will continue practicing their sounds in words and sentences.

March News

March will be a very exciting month. In March it is still winter so we will be continuing to reinforce the winter theme. However, as we approach spring, the children will learn that "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb". They will also celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday and enjoy some of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. As a school we will be learning about families and their heritages/nationalities. This is very exciting for the children. I will work on vocabulary and concepts associated with this unit.

We will continue to work on following directions, answering questions, classifying and categorizing. We will continue to work on listening skills, story comprehension and sequencing events. Children who are working on articulation, will continue practicing their sounds in words, sentences and structured conversation. Children who are working on their fluency, will continue to work on their "easy speech".
