Activities with Household Items:
Fine Motor Skills-
Make your own puzzle
- What you need: cereal box, scissors, and a marker
- What to do: Cut the front off of a cereal box. Draw lines on the back and then cut out the ‘pieces’. Have fun putting them back together like a puzzle!
Q-tip Painting
- What you need: q-tips, paper, and paint
- What to do: cut q-tips in half, dip them in paint, and create designs!
Playdoh designs
- What you need: playdoh and toothpicks
- What to do: flatten out playdoh and use toothpicks to make designs, shapes, numbers, etc.
Use fingers to peel food
- What you need: food you can peel, ie. string cheese, clementine
- What to do: have child peel!
Stringing Straws
- What you need: straws, strings, and scissors
- What to do: cut straws into pieces to use as beads and string them through the string. You can also use pipe cleaners!
Sensory-
Shaving Cream
- What do you need: shaving cream, cookie sheet or tin foil
- What to do: spread shaving cream and spread evenly on your surface, cookie sheet or tin foils, and prompt your child to write letters and numbers in the shaving cream
Sensory bins
- What you need: colored rice, sand, salt, bird seeds, seashells, marbles, popcorn kernals, pom poms, beads, buttons, water beads, etc.
- What to do: put items in a tupperware and have child feel around in each different box
